PROJECT

The objective of the Project is to enhance the capacities for groundwater development planning and implementation of the Groundwater Resources Study Development and Management Directorate (GRSDM) and Oromia Regional Water, Mineral and Energy Bureau (OWMEB) of MoWE through the activities including the production of geological/hydrogeological maps, assessment of groundwater potential, formulation of provisional water supply facility scheme plans and selection of the priority plans therefrom.​

Target Area

The Project area is the Middle Awash River Basin.  Its coverage area is approx. 29,000 km², and the areas subject to map production and water supply planning are approx. 20,000 km² and 15,000 km², respectively.

Goals

1. Result of field investigations will be fully applied to the groundwater potential evaluation.

2.Priority water supply plans for small towns will be selected giving prior attention to the groundwater potential.

3.Capacity of the implementing agencies for groundwater development planning will be developed.
